I was never caught, and none of my papers were flagged on Turnitin. I graduated with a Distinction and have never been questioned about my academic integrity to this day. But this raises important questions: do universities need to do more to ensure academic integrity in the face of AI? Or was I just one of the lucky few who took more steps to avoid getting caught?

The implications of AI on academic integrity are far-reaching. If AI-generated content is so easily usable, what is the point of degrees for most of the workforce? Why do students pay thousands of dollars for a degree that can be easily replicated with AI? These questions are especially pertinent for those who do not plan to pursue research or teaching careers.

The ease with which AI-generated content can be produced and passed off as original work raises significant concerns about the validity of academic degrees. If anyone can generate a degree-worthy paper with a few prompts on an AI word generator, what value does a degree really hold? Will academic degrees become pointless in the future?

These are questions that universities and educators need to grapple with. It is no longer sufficient to rely on traditional methods of detecting plagiarism and ensuring academic integrity. Universities need to develop new strategies to detect AI-generated content and ensure that students are not relying solely on AI to complete their work.

Ultimately, the future of education depends on our ability to adapt to the rapidly changing landscape of AI technology. It is time for universities to take a proactive approach to ensuring academic integrity in the face of AI.
