Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha, delivered a compelling inaugural address at the NEP Conclave-2025, organized by the Higher Education Department in Srinagar. The event, which gathered a plethora of stakeholders, aimed to discuss the rapid implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) across all higher educational institutions in Jammu Kashmir.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed his pride in the region's proactive approach, noting that Jammu Kashmir is among the first in the country to implement the NEP. Sinha highlighted the transformative role of universities and colleges in Jammu Kashmir, stating that they are building an ecosystem that will catalyze innovation and groundbreaking research. “We are building a future-ready academic ecosystem – one that is inclusive, innovative, and impactful. Our aim is to empower every student of Jammu Kashmir to realize their potential, uphold the spirit of Viksit Bharat @2047, and emerge as a proud contributor to the nation’s growth story,” he said.
Under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Jammu Kashmir is spearheading a movement to reform and strengthen the higher education landscape for an uncertain world. Sinha stressed that the ‘Artificial Intelligence Age’ and traditional Indian ideals will be instrumental in realizing the vision of a developed India. “Amalgamation of technological advancement and Indian ethos in higher educational institutions will address future challenges and spur strong economic growth,” he added.
The NEP aims to reduce inequality and expand opportunities in higher educational institutions by focusing on a future-oriented approach. This includes equipping the youth with critical thinking and lifelong learning skills. “Our higher educational institutions have embraced interdisciplinary and project-based learning, moving away from traditional, siloed subjects to bridge the gap between the real world and the academic world. This will empower our youth, enhance skills, and knowledge to ensure their professional growth,” Sinha explained.
He also underscored the importance of establishing a monitoring mechanism to ensure that research projects are future-oriented, generating new ideas, and introducing new perspectives into society’s knowledge flow. “All higher education institutions should implement innovative programs like Design Your Own Degree in a time-bound manner. Effective resolutions to the challenges and sharing of resources by educational institutions are crucial to bring about a holistic transformation in the higher education sector in Jammu Kashmir,” he said.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Shri Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman Higher Education Council J&K; Shri Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department; Vice Chancellors of various universities, senior officials, heads of educational institutions, faculty, and students. The event marked a significant step towards a more inclusive and innovative educational future for Jammu Kashmir.
