State Capacity Building Workshop on Emerging Technologies by National e-Gov

The National e-Governance Division (NeGD), under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), successfully organized a State Capacity Building Workshop on Emerging Technologies in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The workshop took place on November 5-6, 2024, and is part of NeGD’s ongoing initiative under the Digital India programme. The primary goal of these workshops is to build capacity in emerging technologies and improve service delivery through the Capacity Building Scheme. They are designed to demystify the transformative potential of emerging technologies and guide policy formulation in the evolving digital landscape.

The Government of Arunachal Pradesh, working in partnership with NeGD, hosted the event, which was attended by over 150 officials. The leadership training session on the first day was tailored for senior government officers, including the Hon’ble Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Commissioners, and Secretaries from various departments. The mid-level training, designed for directors and other officers, was held on the second day, November 6, 2024.

During the opening session, Shri Manish Gupta, Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, provided valuable insights on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance and administration. He highlighted the practical advantages and challenges of integrating AI into government operations, sharing real-life experiences and reaffirming the state’s commitment to digital transformation. Gupta emphasized the potential of AI to enable more responsive and efficient governance.

The workshop was conducted by the Wadhwani Centre for Government Digital Transformation, a knowledge partner of the National e-Governance Division. The focus was on practical applications of emerging technologies to improve governance and public service delivery. Key discussions included the use of AI and data-driven solutions to enhance government operations.

Launched in August 2023, these workshops stand out due to their unique government-industry consortium partnership. The session in Arunachal Pradesh adopted a use case-based approach, where participants engaged in scenarios tailored to the state’s governance context. The workshop also featured a contextual ideation process, encouraging innovative thinking about technology’s role in governance and driving meaningful discussions on how to best utilize digital advancements for public benefit.
