The Liverpool City Region AI Summit 2025 is set to return bigger and better, bringing together some of the UK’s top names in artificial intelligence to highlight the area’s leadership in 'AI for Good'. Taking place at ACC Liverpool on 23 October, the event will build on the success of last year’s inaugural AI Summit, uniting the brightest minds in AI, including industry leaders, cutting-edge researchers, and innovative businesses.
Together, they will present an inspiring vision for the future of AI, exploring how it can enrich lives and tackle real-world challenges while promoting a fairer, more inclusive society. Spanning four stages and featuring more than 800 attendees, the summit will showcase awe-inspiring stories of scientists using AI to transform society and individual lives.
Keynote speakers include Oxford University Professor Michael Wooldridge, who presented the televised Royal Institution Christmas Lectures about AI in 2023, and Mike Bracken CBE, founder and former executive director of the UK Government Digital Service (GDS) and the UK’s first Government Chief Data Officer. The event will also feature international representatives from Europe, Australia, and the US, adding a global perspective.
Hosted by BBC presenter Jo Coburn and supported by AI-powered avatars, the summit will include a special appearance by the Liverpool City Region’s newly appointed Chief AI Officer, a first for a Combined Authority. Exhibitions from some of the UK’s most exciting AI developments will also be on display. The summit will also host 200 students from across the region and feature insights from children and young people attending a special Youth AI Summit at The Spine in Knowledge Quarter Liverpool on 20 October.
Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram emphasized the region’s commitment to AI for good: “AI is already changing the way we live and work, but here in the Liverpool City Region, we’re showing how it can be a force for good. From tackling deadly diseases to transforming education, our area is proving that AI can make a real difference to people’s lives. I’m thrilled to see this summit return for a second year, bigger and even better, showcasing the brightest minds and most exciting innovations from around the world and demonstrating our region’s leadership in using technology to build a fairer, greener, and more prosperous future for everyone.”
With the rapid acceleration of AI and its influence on everything from smart cities to medical breakthroughs and the future of work, the summit aims to ignite conversations about the direction of AI for the years ahead. It is expected to spark collaborations and drive new ideas about how AI can support the UK’s ambitions to be at the cutting edge of ethical technology.
Key themes at this year’s summit include AI in Innovation and Industry (Health and Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, and Transport), AI in the Workplace (Education, Skills, and Careers), and AI in Society (Inclusion and Literacy, Sustainability and Environment, and Ethics). The Liverpool City Region is home to world-class AI assets, including the UK’s most powerful supercomputer dedicated to industrial research and PsiQuantum’s only European base, positioning it at the forefront of AI innovation that serves people and communities.
Local primary schools are pioneering the use of AI-powered technology to transform learning, and the summit will feature city region scientists at the forefront of AI-powered medical breakthroughs and global environmental research. Delivered in partnership with techUK, the summit will spotlight groundbreaking projects while addressing critical topics such as AI ethics, the law, and the environment.
Headline event sponsor, the University of Liverpool, along with supporting sponsors Liverpool John Moores University and ITS, will join global tech giants like Kyndryl to discuss the future of AI and its potential to transform the way we live, work, and learn. The University of Liverpool Vice Chancellor Professor Tim Jones said, “We’re delighted to be the headline sponsor of the Liverpool City Region AI Summit 2025.
