Long Beach Introduces Free AI Workshops for Residents

The City of Long Beach is offering a series of free workshops to educate residents about artificial intelligence (AI), digital skills, and online safety. 

The City of Long Beach is taking a proactive step to educate its residents about artificial intelligence (AI), digital skills, and online safety through a series of free community workshops scheduled for October. Organized by the City’s Department of Technology and Innovation (TID), these workshops align with Digital Inclusion Week and aim to help residents navigate the rapidly evolving world of AI while ensuring their personal information remains secure.

During the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to watch demonstrations and engage in hands-on activities that will enhance their understanding of generative AI. The sessions will also cover practical tips for cybersecurity and data privacy, equipping attendees with the knowledge they need to stay safe online.

The workshops are scheduled at multiple locations across the city to ensure accessibility for all residents:

- Wednesday, Oct. 8, 6 to 7:30 p.m. – Doris Topsy-Elvord Community Center at Houghton Park, 6301 Myrtle Ave.

- Monday, Oct. 13, 6 to 7:30 p.m. – El Dorado Park West Community Center, 2800 N. Studebaker Road

- Wednesday, Oct. 15, 6 to 7:30 p.m. – Silverado Park Community Center, 1545 W. 31st St.

- Monday, Oct. 20, noon to 1:30 p.m. – Long Beach Senior Center, 1150 E. Fourth St.

- Wednesday, Oct. 22, 3 to 4:30 p.m. – Billie Jean King Main Library, 200 W. Broadway

Each session will last 90 minutes and will cover the same learning material. Light refreshments will be provided, and residents are encouraged to register in advance at lbcity.info/aiprivacy. Interpretation services in Spanish, Khmer, and Tagalog are available upon request, ensuring that the workshops are accessible to a diverse community.
